Parent Power Group: "Getting Ready for Back to School"
Yolande Beckles, CEO of The Knowledge Shop, will lead this discussion on ways parents can support their students in getting ready for school and doing the best job possible. We will also discuss the importance of reading and math skills at all levels.

About Our Presenter:
A London native, Yolande Beckles arrived in Los Angeles in 2007, serving some eight years in parent and community activism and support here before launching The Knowledge Shop in South Los Angeles in 2015.
Their focus is Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Math Enrichment (STREAM) for youth and families. Their successful early childhood math model is based on the work of Dr. Michael Batie, CEO of the STEM Education and Research Collaborative.
In 2022, Yolande launched the National Association of African American Parents and Youth (NAAAPY), a nonprofit dedicated to the educational, social, emotional, and spiritual well being of the Black community.
She is the mother of five, including four former LAUSD students who attended gifted classes and graduated from college. Her 3-year-old granddaughter is currently attending early childhood math classes at grandma's agency.
